Outreach
Cultivating the next generation of science pioneers
NYSBC believes science should be accessible to everyone—including high school students taking their first look through a microscope, their teachers, and the communities we serve. We actively create pathways into science through hands-on programs, regional collaborations, and public engagement.
Partnerships
NYSBC partners with local schools and organizations to connect classroom learning to real-world science. Through ongoing collaborations with Math for America, NYSBC staff visits schools and hosts workshops at NYSBC, bringing cutting-edge science to math and science teachers and their students. Life Science Cares groups visit our facility for tours and science experiences. NYSBC also co-hosts an annual regional symposium on integrated structural biology with the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center.
Internships
NYSBC hosts summer research interns each year, providing intensive hands-on experience in structural biology. Past interns have participated in the Simons STEM Scholars Program from Stony Brook University, mastering cryo-EM workflows, annotating images to train machine learning algorithms, and developing computational tools. Two interns from a recent summer cohort even co-authored a publication.
Programming
Outreach programming at NYSBC includes facility tours, scanning electron microscope demos, science demonstrations, and internship placements. NYSBC welcomes inquiries from schools and programs interested in partnership opportunities.
