NYSBC offers a unique work environment: a research–service hybrid that combines the intellectual depth of an academic lab with the resources and infrastructure of a major scientific center. Staff scientists work directly with cutting-edge instrumentation, collaborate with leading researchers from around the world, and have the opportunity to develop and disseminate new methods. 

NYSBC actively supports career development at all levels. Professional development programs cover topics from grant writing and intellectual property to personal finance and benefits. Staff scientists are encouraged to submit independent research grants. Several recent staff-initiated grants have been successfully funded, including R21, F31, and collaborative NIH awards.
