NYSBC Consortium Scheduling
The NMR instruments are allocated to NYSBC Consortium institutions according to their membership level. The schedule is published at 13 weeks in advance to allow sufficient time for planning and sample preparation. NYSBC affiliates of consortium institutions can request use of their scheduled institutional NMR time by contacting their institution’s NYSBC NMR representative or nmrscheduling@nysbc.org.
General Notes for NMR Schedule
- Look at this schedule with a reload of your browser window, before coming to use time you believe allocated to you. Your allocation is governed by your Institutional Representative. If you believe your allocations are in error, please contact them first. Additional questions can be directed to nmrscheduling@nysbc.org.
- For NYSBC NMR specific information see General facility summary and facility FAQs.
- See NMR Access Accounting for detailed comments on relative waiting of NMR use by field strength.
- 900_2 is converted between solids and liquids.
- The 600 DNP is not part of a Member institution’s normal NMR allocation. Users interested in the 600 DNP should contact nmrscheduling@nysbc.org.
- Scheduled maintenance.
- NMR fills, updates – Tuesdays 900A – Noon, unless otherwise specified.
- Server backups – Mondays 1000A – Noon.
- NMR computers full synchronization – Mondays 200A start.
- The 600 DNP is not part of a Member institution’s normal NMR allocation. Users interested in the 600 DNP should contact nmrscheduling@nysbc.org.
The majority of the NMR time is reserved for NYSBC Consortium Members. The balance of time is available to the wider NMR community for an hourly fee. Experienced NMR users interested in collecting data using the NYSBC instruments should contact nmrscheduling@nysbc.org.
Contract NMR services can be provided.

Becoming an NYSBC affiliate.
All users of the Center’s resources must become affiliated with NYSBC. NYSBC Staff will normally facilitate this for users. All affiliates require Affiliation Endorsement from their Institution’s representative(s) on NYSBC’s NMR scientific committee. The affiliation is required for identification purposes and for allocation of resources which are in heavy demand.
- Faculty of the Member Institutions should inquire of their Departmental Chairs, or Deans to become affiliated Faculty. For further information, they may wish to consult their Institution’s representative(s) on NYSBC’s scientific committee, who can supply Affiliation Endorsement.
- Postdoctoral Associates should inquire of their Principal Investigator and with their approval have a member of NYSBC’s scientific committee supply Affiliation Endorsement.
- Graduate Students of the Member Institutions should inquire of their Research Director, or Dean of Students. Graduate Students will need to have a member of NYSBC’s scientific committee supply an Affiliation Endorsement
- Undergraduates of the Member Institutions should associate themselves with faculty research programs in their Member Institution, and then inquire of their Research Director.
Visitors – We welcome everyone at the public seminars and meetings at NYSBC.
Those formally affiliated with the Center are welcome during all working hours. However, we do not permit visitors who are not affiliates into the controlled areas, which are at BSL-2 (Bio Safety Lab level -2), of the building other than when they are escorted by NYSBC staff. Please advise us in advance of your needs to bring in visitors. This rule is needed because of
- The impossibility of having trained staff safely supervising visitors other than by escorting them,
- Some unusual hazards (especially the fringe fields),
- The size and complexity of the building in the case of required evacuation (e.g. for fire)
- Need for security in a BSL2 facility
Please be reminded that ONLY users with all-hours privilege will be able to enter the NYSBC Park building outside working hours, which include ALL FEDERAL holidays and weekends.
Purpose and General Comments:
- Purpose. The NMR resources of NYSBC are available around the clock to qualified users and is solely for the scientific use of the NYSBC resources. An applicant for should have a reasonable need for significant all-hours access to the resources of the Center. The privilege of all-hours access will be considered when the applicant has demonstrated sufficient competency operating the spectrometers to NMR Staff. These rules are designed to be applicable to all affiliates.
- All-hours access is required if a user is to be present outside normal working hours or hours when a facility staff member is not present.
- Applicants shall hold a New York Fire Department Permit for Supervision of a Chemical Laboratory certificate (type C-14) in their home institution.
- Changes. The rules and procedures described here are continuously evolving with growth of NYSBC, and input from the Board and the operating committees.
- No entitlement. These rules and procedures do not provide any entitlement to all-hours access, and all-hours access privileges may be suspended for emergency or operational reasons at any time.
- Suspension. In general, all-hours use will not be available under the following conditions. The guard will be directed to turn all-hours users away during these times. there is no electrical power at NYSBC. In the event of any outages in Manhattan, call NYSBC in advance to check. the National Weather Service issues Hurricane or Winter Storm Warnings, because of the additional potential difficulties of providing emergency services, and of transport.
